Community Environment Recovery Action Plan
a) Neighbourhood property visits
Prior to the community workshops in May, the project consultants are offering to meet groups of neighbours on site to have specific discussions about joint neighbourhood land management issues, priorities and practices.
The consultants have years of land management experience, and this is a great opportunity for residents to obtain free technical advice and solutions on how to best manage their immediate neighbourhood.
To arrange a neighbourhood property visit, please coordinate a group of your neighbours (at least 3 properties); nominate a property to be used as a meeting place, schedule a meeting in March or April, and contact:
Darrel Brewin, EnPlan 0417 185 071 or 5261 5229
dbrewin@pacific.net.au
Please be prepared to discuss joint land management issues that are important to your neighbourhood.
b) Literature Review
The Draft Literature Review is now available for comment.

Natural Envrionment Working Group (NERWG)
Natural Environment Working Group is nearing the end of its Bushfire Recovery funding and we are looking to the future. The Nillumbik Shire Council Land Management team, together with Strathewen Landcare and SCRA will continue to deliver support to residents. It is hoped that the inter-agency co-operation that has been the strength of this group can be carried forward to a Nillumbik Landcare network that includes all Landcare groups in the Shire.
There is still plenty happening:
- Pasture management plans should be being finalised at a workshop as this newsletter goes to print. Those who have not had a plan prepared for their property will receive a visit when we can engage another agronomist. Strathewen residents whose property was burnt should apply for the Darley Pasture grant NOW. Contact Tim on 9433 3207
- Residents participating in the rabbit control program are receiving visits from the contractors in readiness for control programs in April. If you want to be involved contact
Kirraly on 9433 3328 - There are a large number of erosion projects scheduled between now and the end of May. Contractor availability is a problem so landholders are being asked to be patient.
- The Stringybark Community Nursery is up and running. We will keep you informed about working bees through email and SMS.
- Agricultural Chemical Users Course - residents are being funded to attend this course. The first course starts this Thursday but you still have a chance to attend the course on July 21/22 or November 10/11. Contact Manieka on 9433 3725
- Chainsaw Course - Strathewen Landcare will fund members to do this course which we hope will be in early June. Contact Kylee on 9714 8292
- Other activities - contact Kirraly on 9433 3328 to confirm location details.
- Field Day with Melbourne Water at St Andrews - Sunday 10 April

- Shelterbelt workshop at Strathewen - Saturday 30th April 10am - 12 noon
